I've recently become fascinated with CNC and the idea of converting a mill to CNC. I do not have previous CNC experience but with a decent kit or plan I think I can do it. This would be for hobby use so the results dont have to be perfect just better than what I can do by hand :) Just a couple questions based on your experiences

1.) Will this machine be capable of cutting inlay material and pockets?
Mill Link

2.) What are some good conversion plans or kits that you have worked with, there seems to be a number out there

3.)What should I anticipate it costing in parts and materials?

Thanks all!turbo41139084.4824305556

I'm no expert, but consider the maximum speed on milling machines: it's generally very, very low compared to any woodworking machine, and I can't see it not tearing the pearl to shreds, f'r instance. I was playing with the idea of converting an X2 (you linked to an X1, I think; look up micro mill and mini mill on the web) to CNC, but realized that the work area (even extended with the aftermarket X-Y table available) would be relatively limited; not a whole lot more cash (but much more work) could make me a CNC router; if that works out, I'll consider adding a cnc mill to the mix, because I can think of several interesting metalworking projects I'd enjoy tackling...
